Herrell's® Introduces Flavors Created by UMass Amherst Food Science Students

Herrell's® introduces seven new flavors of ice cream made by and named by UMass Amherst students in the 2019-2020 UMass Food Science department. Seven teams of students worked cooperatively to come up with unique flavors and ingredients for this competition.

Cantina Margarita and Ube ice cream won first place in a tie. However, “all of the ice creams were just amazing,” said Judy Herrell, the judge and mentor for the competition. “So, we will make and serve them all for the public to try. Feedback at Herrell's® is always welcomed, and we look forward to hearing customers’ thoughts,” Judy added.

The flavors are as follows:

  • Cantina Margarita—blood orange margarita with chocolate-covered cone chips. Refreshing.
  • Ube—Japanese purple potato ice cream. Unique.
  • Just Peachy—very peachy-flavored ice cream with an oatmeal flake finish. Breakfast favorite.
  • Sunday Brunch—French toasty in flavor. Delicious.
  • Pepper Storm—jalapeño, habanero, and poblano pepper ice cream. Spicy and yummy.
  • Magic Wings—lavender ice cream with a honey streak. Fragrant and delightful.
  • Salt Bae—fenugreek and matcha tea mixed with a salty base. Classic.

All of these flavors will be available until they are gone. Come on by and try them today.
